Forever Pucked by Helena Hunting Review

Being engaged to Alex Waters, team captain and the highest paid NHL player in the league, is awesome. How could it not be?
In addition to being an amazing hockey player, he’s an incurable romantic with an XL heart, and an XXL hockey stick in his pants. And he knows how to use it. Incredibly, orgasmically well. Alex is the whole package and more. Literally. Like his package is insane. Total world record holder material.
So it makes complete sense that Violet Hall can’t wait to nail him down to the matrimonial mattress and become Mrs. Violet Waters.
It’s so romantic.
Violet is totally stoked to set a date.
Eventually. At some point. Likely before the next millennium. Or when Violet stops getting hives every time someone brings up the wedding, and their mothers stop colluding on stadium sized venues. Whichever comes first.

REVIEW

Forever Pucked (Pucked, #4)

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
If you’ve read the other books in the series, you know Violet is pretty crazy. She still brings a lot of comedy to Forever Pucked, loading it with silly fun, but this book has lots of heart moments too. I found several parts really touching.
I love how some of the hockey players, friends, lovers and families have formed a special little group. Each person brings his or her own unique personality to the overall makeup. No matter if the outside world would consider one of them to be ditzy, klutzy, promiscuous, mental, style-challenged, moody or whatever, they all have a special spot in their circle which couldn’t be filled by anyone else.
Alex and Violet definitely have a unique wedding. Of course it has ridiculous bits, but I wasn’t expecting as much sweetness. This book may have made me a little emotional a few times.
Fans of the series will not be disappointed. I’m excited to read more about this special bunch, and I’m really looking forward to getting inside Lance’s head.

Catch a Tiger by the Tail Blog Tour Review

CatchATigerBTBanner
Hello all! Thank you for joining me on the second stop of the Catch a Tiger by the Tail blog tour, celebrating the release of book 6 in the THIRDS series out February 5th!
Music features heavily in the THIRDS series, whether through Dex’s obsession with 80s music, karaoke night at Dekatria, or a tender scene between characters. All of the THIRDS books have playlists which I listened to while I was writing and represent a good deal of what’s happening in the book. Catch a Tiger by the Tail is no different. Although Calvin and Ethan aren’t as enthusiastic about 80s music as Dex, they still very much enjoy listening to a few tunes. They’re more into Alternative, R&B, and Rock. Here’s the Catch a Tiger by the Tail Playlist:
  1. This Kids Not Alright – AWOLNATION
  2. Colorblind – Counting Crows
  3. Sweet Dreams – Beyoncé
  4. My Tiger My Heart – The Boy Least Likely To
  5. Casualty of Love – Jessie J
  6. I’m Gonna Do My Thing – Royal Deluxe
  7. Make You Feel my Love – Adele
  8. Shiver Shiver – Walk the Moon
  9. Love Me Harder – Ariana Grande, The Weekend
  10. Stand by Me – Ben E. King
  11. Renegades – X Ambassadors

All my THIRDS playlists can be found on Spotify here. You can also find the playlists on THIRDSHQ.

REVIEW

Catch a Tiger by the Tail (THIRDS #6)

4.5 stars

I’ve loved every book in the THIRDS series including this one.
The main couple in Catch a Tiger by the Tail is Calvin and Ethan. They have been best friends since they were children. I adore best friends to lovers stories, such deep and layered love. C&E aren’t just best friends. They grew up almost like family. Even their mothers became best friends. First Ethan gave me the feels when I saw inside his head. Expressing himself is sometimes such a burden, but Cal’s faith in him gives him courage. He wants so much to be strong in return. Then, I saw the real Cal. He has always been the strong one for everyone. It’s tough to pick who I love more.
If you’re missing the other guys, don’t worry. The whole gang is very present in this installment. The heart and humor floating in the air when the team is together are joy overload for me. I can’t get enough of their interactions. Romances, friendships and family relationships get those emotions flowing.
Of course, THIRDS has drama to manage in the outside world also. There’s still something going on in the overall series, a big unknown with pieces in each book. Several instances of citizen unrest fall on the shoulders of the gang as well.
One of my favorite scenes is the Felids Gone Wild bit while they’re moving. It ticked me so much. The sex scenes are super yummy, hot and sweet. And that ending! I can’t wait for the next installment.

REVIEW

Hot Toy

I had the best time reading this romantic comedy novella. The laughs started almost immediately and played out like a holiday family movie. All that can go wrong does, but it also goes very right.
While last minute insanity shopping for the most popular toy of the season for her nephew, Trudy gets caught up in a battle between government agents. The dialogue is truly great. The cast is made up of an ex, cougar bait, a drunken sister and other crazies. The one goal in Trudy’s mind is to get that toy no matter what.
This is a great light read for getting into the Christmas spirit while tickling your funny bone. It left me with a good feeling.

Jefferson Blythe, Esquire

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
4.25 stars
Jefferson Blythe, Esquire is about a young man at a crossroads in his life. Up until now he has been in denial of the fact that he has feelings for a man. After ending a long time relationship with his girlfriend, he decides to take an educational stroll across Europe.
While on his European vacation, all hell breaks loose in Jeff’s life. He befriends strangers, gets kidnapped, outruns a shooting and much more. During this madness, Jefferson comes to some important conclusions about his future.
I had fun and enjoyed this book the entire time. I do think it isn’t for everyone. If you’re looking for erotic, this isn’t it. The atmosphere reminded me of a British comedy show with some romance and sex tidbits added to the mix. Generous amounts of mystery and action are also included. I read it all on a Saturday and was left in the best mood. Thank you to the author for making my weekend.

in love at rock bottom—up.

NOW AVAILABLE!

the fall up cover ebook.jpg

I wanted to jump.
He made me fall.

As a celebrity, I lived in the public eye, but somewhere along the way, I’d lost myself in the spotlight.

Until he found me.

Sam Rivers was a gorgeous, tattooed stranger who saved my life with nothing more than a simple conversation.

But we were both standing on that bridge for a reason the night we met. The secrets of our pasts brought us together—and then tore us apart.

Could we find a reason to hold on as life constantly pulled us down?

Or maybe there’s only one direction to go when two people fall in love at rock bottom—up.

Excerpt One
“Thank fuck!” Sam said, swinging the door open before Devon even had the car in park.
“Oh, this isn’t my place. We’re just dropping Devon off. I’m about twenty minutes across town?”  I tossed him a sugary smile then boldly shifted my hand into his lap, purposely brushing the bulge under his denim.
Grabbing my wrist, he narrowed his eyes and called out, “Devon, I’m gonna need to borrow a bedroom.”
I burst out laughing as Devon cursed loudly.
“Fine. This is my place. No smoking inside though,” I snipped as I climbed from the SUV.
“You better have some seriously exciting extracurricular activities to keep me distracted, then.”
“I have Ping-Pong!”
“Not exactly what I was thinking.” He mischievously cocked his head. “But I guess paddles and balls are as good a start as any.” Dipping down, he hoisted me over his shoulder. “Point me to the Ping-Pong table, my lady.”
I didn’t. I laughed hysterically as he carried me inside. Then I directed him to my bedroom instead.
I heard Devon locking up the house as Sam deposited me on the bed.
“Jesus. This view.”  He pushed the curtains back. “Why the hell would you ever go up to the bridge when you have this here?”
“I don’t know,” I answered, pulling my earrings off and placing them on my nightstand.
Oh, but I knew. It might not have been what had originally sent me up that bridge, but it was why my feet carried me back every night. And that very reason was currently standing in front of me with entirely too much clothing on.
“You want a beer?” I asked, sliding my shoes off.
“Nah, I’m good.” He faced me, and I could tell something was off with his demeanor. He didn’t inch any closer. Instead, his lips were tight and his eyes uncomfortably flashed around the room.
It suddenly didn’t feel like Sam standing in front of me at all.
He felt like a stranger who had just come face-to-face with Levee Williams.
Damn it.
“Why are you looking at me like that? Are you about to freak out?” I whispered, nervously moistening my lips.
He shoved his hands into his pockets. “I’m not really sure yet. But I’m gonna need you to stop licking your lips long enough for me to figure it out.” His mouth cracked into a wide grin, and my shoulders relaxed.
Now that was a flash of my Sam.
“Want to tell me what’s going on?” I asked.
“It’s just… I think this is the first time I’ve realized that you’re some big-time celebrity. I might be in over my head here, Designer Shoes.”
“I just make music, Sam.” I returned his smile and very slowly prowled in his direction. “Imagine how I feel though. You’re Samuel Nathan Rivers. A tough, tattooed furniture designer who makes six figures a year but is too afraid to tell his mommy he votes democratic.” I giggled as he frowned humorously. Stopping in front of him, I dragged a fingernail down his chest then teased the waistband of his jeans. “Have you considered that maybe I’m the one who’s in over her head here?” I leaned forward to nip at his lips, but he spun us around.
“Excellent point. I’m going to need you to try really hard to keep it together, Levee. You haven’t even seen my six-pack and huge cock, yet.” He smirked and attempted to return my nip, but I stepped out of his reach.
“You brought beer and chicken?” I feigned excitement.
That one corny joke was all it took to bring my Sam back completely.
With a sexy smile and a coy shrug, he seductively backed me toward the bed. “What can I say? I like to be prepared.”
“Clearly,” I breathed.
He moved in close so his lips were only a centimeter away, but for as much as I wanted him, it was agonizing. “Clearly,” he repeated, his smoky yet sweet breath breezing across my mouth.
His strong arm looped around my waist, tugging me against his chest, while I stared into his hooded eyes, eagerly waiting for him to make a move.
Any move.
Every move.
the fall up teaser use.jpg

Excerpt Two
“You’re overdoing it, Lev. I know this job isn’t exactly nine-to-five, but it’s not twenty-four-seven, either. You have to stop being Levee Williams all the time and just be you.”
“I know,” I responded.
I didn’t though. I felt like a robot parading around in a lost woman’s body.
Smile.
Pose.
Turn.
Toss in the occasional song.
Repeat.
What little time I did manage to carve out for myself was spent at various children’s hospitals across the country.
Smile.
Pose.
Turn.
Watch a child die.
Repeat.
With every day that passed, the smile became less and less genuine, the pose more and more forced, and the turn took me further and further away from who I really was.
My career was soaring while, personally, I was plummeting. Every single day felt like a terrifying free fall in no particular direction. I was stuck in the middle with no way up—or down.
“You remember that girl, right?” Henry asked, tucking a hair behind my ear.
I nodded.
I did remember her. She was fun and carefree. She loved going out and dancing at nightclubs until the very last song played. She slept until noon if she could. Then, fueled by coffee alone, she’d spend the day with a guitar strapped around her neck and a notepad at her side. She had a huge heart, but she knew her limitations.
Oh, I remembered that girl. I just couldn’t figure out how to get back to her.

The Fall Up

This couple had a very unique meeting, romantic and mysterious. They’re also quite good with the humorous banter. Sam is a business owner who remakes old furniture and such into one of a kind new pieces of furniture. Levee is a super popular pop singer. Both have been touched with mental illness and death. This is their story of how they help each other to heal.
I really enjoyed their best friends. Sam’s bud Ryan is a lawyer in love with his secretary, and he is forever worried about another guy catching her eye. Levee’s bestie Henry is a singer. They sometimes work together. He’s gay and totally man crazy.
If you’re looking for instalove or something that’s sweet and fun, The Fall Up is something you should check out.

PUCKED UP by Helena Hunting Review

****The 2nd standalone novel in The PUCKED Series****
Miller “Buck” Butterson has been banging his way through life ever since a puck to the face fixed his messed up front teeth. After five years in the NHL, deflecting goals on the ice and scoring them with puck bunnies, Miller has decided he’s ready for a girlfriend. A real, non-bunny girlfriend to take on dates, and not jump into bed with after five seconds of conversation.
Miller thinks he’s found that woman in his teammate’s sister. Except, unlike team captain and all-around nice guy Alex Waters—who happens to date his stepsister, Miller’s media reputation as a manwhore is well earned. Beyond that minor detail, Miller doesn’t know the first thing about relationships or the time and effort they require.
Miller learns—eventually—that if he wants to make Sunshine “Sunny” Waters fall for him, he’s going to have to do a whole lot more than show her his stick skills in the bedroom.

Pucked Up (Pucked, #2)

4.5 stars
I liked book one, but I never anticipated Pucked Up would pack the punch it did for me. I loved it. The overall mood for the story is pretty light, but it does hit some deeper points.
Honestly, I really wasn’t expecting much from Buck, but, after getting to know him, he’s found his way onto my top book boyfriends list. First off, his heart is as big as North America. He bumbles into the most ridiculous situations where you want to hide your eyes but can’t help but chuckle. Learning of his struggles growing up and his dyslexia issues made me want to snuggle him. Speaking of snuggling, he’s the biggest softie ever. Also important, he has excellent bedroom skills.
The main couple of this book is Sunny and Buck. She is the vegan, yoga instructing, no make up wearing, animal shelter volunteering little sister to Waters. He is professional hockey playing, puck bunny attracting wearer of the big dumb jock label. I really enjoyed getting to know them both more. They’re both pretty awesome. Much of the plot is about the romance between Buck and Sunny, but many other relationships are included. Violet and Buck have a great one. I get a kick out of how they antagonize each other but are always there to back one another. Also, there are some parent and grown child moments. Teammates and friends aggravate, fight with and rally one another.
I laughed, teared up and my heart grew two sizes. This storyline met all my basic needs for an excellent read. Even if you don’t normally like sports romance, you should check it out.

The Unfortunate Decisions of Dahlia Moss by Max Wirestone Review

For fans of The Guild, New Girl, Scott Pilgrim, Big Bang Theory, Veronica Mars, or anyone who has ever geeked out about something.
The odds of Dahlia successfully navigating adulthood are 3,720 to 1. But never tell her the odds.
Meet Dahlia Moss, the reigning queen of unfortunate decision-making in the St. Louis area. Unemployed broke, and on her last bowl of ramen, she’s not living her best life. But that’s all about to change.
Before Dahlia can make her life any messier on her own she’s offered a job. A job that she’s woefully under-qualified for. A job that will lead her to a murder, an MMORPG, and possibly a fella (or two?).
Turns out unfortunate decisions abound, and she’s just the girl to deal with them.

REVIEW

The Unfortunate Decisions of Dahlia Moss

4.5 stars
This book is pure enjoyment and fun. The writing is smart and colorful with a storyline of equal measures geek and mystery.
Dahlia has been on a long unemployment streak, when a job falls into her lap. Originally hired to solve an online gaming issue between teammates, she soon gets wrapped up in a murder investigation. Some of the plot happens inside a multiplayer elaborate online gaming world. Some happens in her real world. She’s totally relatable and free with the humor always. Even though someone is killed, it’s pretty light-hearted with cosplay events, dumpster diving and just general everyday wackiness. Sometimes the pace heats up as with a shoot out that seems to blend as a LARP, but by the end, it does give a serious message of just getting out and living.
I can definitely see The Unfortunate Decisions of Dahlia Moss being turned into a movie. I don’t read a lot of books that are so full of quirky bits, pop culture, and geek references. It was exactly what I needed—totally delightful, and I will be looking for more from this author.
