GRIEVOUS
(Scarlet Scars Book Two)
Dark Romance
J.M. Darhower

Release Date: February 6th

Scarlet Scars is a two-book series.
***Scarlet Scars contains dark elements that some readers may find disturbing***
***Synopsis***

Once upon a time, there was a girl who stopped believing in fairy tales after her innocence was stolen.

Morgan Myers is tired. So damn tired. Most people either push her around or brush her off, and she’s not putting up with it anymore. Determined to reclaim the life that had been stolen from her, she puts her trust in the last person she ever expected to: the notorious they call Scar. Morgan sees a side of him that few people seem to know—the man, not the myth. Lorenzo. And what she sees, she likes, a lot more than she thought she would.

But fairy tales aren’t real, as life likes to remind her. Some dragons, you just can’t slay, no matter how hard you fight them. And when hers comes back around, breathing fire, she’s forced to face some unimaginable horrors. But there’s a white knight in combat boots out there that isn’t afraid of monsters.

You see, it’s impossible to be afraid of something you see every day in the mirror.

MENACE
(Scarlet Scars Book One)
Release Date: January 16th
***Synopsis***

Once upon a time, there was a guy who got so fed up with life that he resorted to murder and mayhem just to feel alive.

Lorenzo Gambini is bored. So fucking bored. Most people either annoy him or avoid him, afraid to face him. Figuratively. Literally. With his face partially disfigured, scarred, he looks every bit the monster the stories make him out to be: the notorious menace they call Scar. They say he’s a sociopath. Maybe he’s a psychopath. Whatever path he’s on, people tend to stay far away from it.

Until one day, a young woman bumps right into him—a woman just as fed up with life, but for much different reasons. With a Scarlet Letter inked on her wrist and secrets buried deep in her soul, Morgan Myers is running from something… or maybe somebody. Lorenzo isn’t quite sure.

You can bet your ass he’s going to figure it out, though.

Review

Grievous (Scarlet Scars, #2)

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This story picks up where Menace leaves off. You definitely have to read Menace first. The dilemmas aren’t solved when Grievous begins, but it has a lighter touch in comparison to Menace. The main characters are doing well. They still know that a showdown is inevitable, but they have some fun. The reader gets to know more about them and see more into their personalities. I actually started thinking this book wasn’t going to have the hints of dark the first one did. I was wrong. It has a point where events are definitely taken further in the direction of dark than book one.
Despite everything Lorenzo and Morgan went through in the past and endure in this book, they don’t loose their humanity. They’re easy to understand and love. Some of the sweetest scenes happen. The ugly and precious balance out and give it a realistic feeling. I love the cast and the plot. If you like mob style tales, you should definitely check out this series. No one does organized crime like this author.

Sweetest Sorrow by J.M. Darhower Review

Dante Galante has evaded death a few times in his life, but held captive in a sweltering basement, he’s certain that death has finally caught up to him. Bloody and barely breathing, he tries to stay strong, but there’s only so much a man can endure before darkness takes over.

As a critical care nurse, Gabriella Russo witnesses suffering often. Thick-skinned, forever cautious, she doesn’t take her work home with her… until Dante Galante lands himself in her hospital. Recklessly grieving the sister he believes he’ll never see again, Dante needs a friend. Just a friend. That’s all it’s supposed to be.

But life has other plans for them, just as it had for Matteo Barsanti and Genevieve Galante. Away from the chaos, building a life of their own, there’s only one thing that could ever bring them back to New York: Dante.

Rules get broken and boundaries are crossed as the fight between rival families continues on, drawing them all deeper into a war they want far away from… for good reason.

Book 1 of the Forbidden Series

A deadly rivalry.

Two families at war.

Nobody is safe, not even the innocent.

Especially the innocent.

Blood will be spilled.

Genevieve “Genna” Galante knows a thing or two about causing trouble. After all, it’s engrained in her DNA. As the only daughter of Primo Galante, notorious boss of the Galante crime family, her life is dictated by a certain set of rules… rules Genna was never very good at following.

Matteo “Matty” Barsanti never wanted anything to do with the family business, but as the first-born Barsanti son, certain things are expected of him. It’s his duty, according to his father, to help take down the enemy… even if that enemy means something to him.

A chance encounter on an elevator changes the course of lives, causing the biggest trouble of Genna’s young life. The only good Barsanti is a dead Barsanti. She’s heard it said time and time again. So what happens when she falls in love with one of them?

The story of star-crossed lovers caught in the middle of the biggest rivalry New York has ever seen, determined to make it… if only they can survive their parents’ feud.

REVIEW

Sweetest Sorrow (Forbidden, #2)

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is a dual couple story. Matteo Barsanti and Genevieve Galante from BAON are expecting a baby and on the run. Dante Galante has evaded death again, but he is in critical condition under the care of Gabriella Russo. Every character is completely intertwined. There’s the big arch nemesis situation between Primo Galante and Bobby Barsanti, and practically everyone is a mortal enemy really. Despite everything, some are able to see past the war of the last couple of decades.
I was into the storyline from the start, but it wasn’t fully holding my interest during the beginning part. The later half or so greatly picked up me. There were so many stand out lines that I actually was compelled to highlight and read over them a couple of extra times.
If you’ve read this author, you know she gives her mafia stories a realistic feel. They aren’t over the top or guaranteed to end well for everyone. These characters have lived through and/or perpetrated acts which forever changed everything. No matter how things happened to go, there were bound to be bittersweet feelings.
Sweetest Sorrow was a win for me. I liked and felt sorry for certain characters unexpectedly. I was shocked by the complete heartlessness of others. A blast from the past person of obsession for me showed up. It felt like time travel to see someone you know you will miss in the future. The book ends in a way that could definitely be the conclusion of the story, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see any of the cast pop up again. I want to give a shout out to Gavin Amaro. He is a favorite from this series for sure.

EMPIRE by Rachel Van Dyken Review

I have lost everything.
My purpose.
My love.
My soul.
Death knocks on my door, I want to answer, but every time I reach for the handle–the promise I made her, brings me back.
So I breathe.
I live.
I hate.
And I allow the anger to boil beneath the surface of a perfectly indifferent facade.
I am broken, I don’t want to be fixed.
One last trip to New York, one last chance to redeem a lost part of the mafia family. The Empire is crumbling and it’s my job to fix it, my job to mend the pieces that were scattered over thirty years ago.
The only issue is, the only way to fix, is to do something I swore I’d never do again.
An arranged marriage.
Only this time.
I won’t fall.
Or so help me God, I’ll kill her myself.
My name is Sergio Abandanoto, you think you know my pain, my suffering, my anger, my hate–you have no idea.
I am the mafia.
I am the darkness.
Blood in. No out.

EXCERPT

Sergio looked ready to strangle me. “No. I don’t believe I asked for an annoying little sister, but if that’s what you’re offering, please don’t let me stop you. Just know, I won’t hesitate to put you over my knee if you get out of hand.”
The minute the words left his mouth. I froze.
He froze.
The taxi driver stared little laser like holes into the rearview mirror.
And Sergio leaned toward me.
I swallowed as tension swirled around us.
He gripped me by the chin and turned my head to the side, his lips brushing my ear. “It’s like you have a death wish.”
“You wouldn’t do it.”
He pulled back as both of his eyebrows shot up, and then he looked down, like he had spotted something.
I followed the direction of his gaze and let out a little gasp as a gun dug into my stomach.
“It’s been directed at you for the last four minutes,” Sergio said through a practiced smile. “I meant what I said. Listen well. I keep my word. Kiss me, and blood will be spilled.”
“Y-you’re a crazy person!” I hissed, shoving at his chest. “And I wasn’t going to kiss you!”
“Sure you weren’t.” He put the gun away. “Good talk though, right? Oh look, the movie theater.”
To say that I scrambled out of the car like a kid running away from her kidnapper would be a gross understatement, but the minute my feet hit the pavement, I paused.
My body told me to run.
The guy had pulled a gun.
On me.
I didn’t even watch violent movies.

Empire (Eagle Elite, #7)

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Empire has a charming Beauty & The Beast theme throughout. It also has the voices of Luca and Andi from beyond the grave, which makes everything a bit emotional. I love Luca’s mastermind abilities. I’m interested in Frank and Luca’s history. Some of that is discussed as well as some point of view from Frank, which really adds to the story since readers of the series usually only hear from the younger members. The overall direction hints that a war is coming, and of course this book’s storyline is a romance with a troubled start. Most of the previous couples are there, especially the EE gang, bringing their special brand of heart and humor. Some new characters come onto the scene, and the reader gets updates on some of the known cast.
Readers who have enjoyed the other books in this series should like this one. If you want a mafia romance that’s isn’t really hardcore or you’re a fan of stories that have a sweet good girl and a hard shell, mushy center bad boy, give this one a go. Fans of RVD know that sometimes her books almost have a YA level heat factor. Empire is more descriptive with the sexy times. It’s not full blown erotica, but those parts aren’t skipped over either. I liked this addition and look forward to the next book.

They are the lost boys.

Sons of mafia mistresses expected to keep their fathers’ sins in the shadows. The lucky ones are forgotten.

Unfortunately for Valentino “Tino” Moretti, his brother Nova was too smart to be forgotten, and too valuable to risk when he resists a life of crime. So they punished Tino instead. Forced into the cruel world of the Sicilian Mafia at twelve, Tino was broken before he was old enough to know the man he was supposed to be. Now he’s what the mafia made him.

The enforcer.

A trained killer forbidden to love, but he did anyway. He’s loved Brianna all along.

Raw and beautiful, their romance was all consuming and far too dangerous. They were ripped apart a long time ago. It’s not until the borgata puts out a hit on her that Brianna falls back into Tino’s arms, churning up their dark past and unraveling all the Moretti brothers’ closely guarded secrets.

This isn’t the end of the story. It’s only the beginning, and it is brutal.

There’s a reason enforcers are considered too deadly to love.

“We have to be better than them. Stronger. Faster. Smarter. Lost boys have to fly.” ~Carlo Moretti, original lost boy

Excerpt
“Who are we hiding from?” Brianna asked as she tossed her bag on the chair by the bed.
“Everyone,” Tino said as he locked the door behind them.
He had a briefcase with him, but there were no clothes in it. Just cash and firearms, neither of which she’d been surprised by when he pulled it out of the trunk.
“Like the feds?” she asked as she stared down at the tank top she was wearing under the jacket Carina had loaned her. She glanced back to Tino as he took off the camouflage hat and set it on the desk by the door. He pulled off his jacket, tossed it over the chair, and stood there in that blue University of Kentucky shirt that was too tight across his broad, muscular chest and clung to his thick biceps. He was way too sexy for her sanity, so she quickly turned away and asked, “Is that why you’re using an ID with your father’s name on it?”
“I’m using that ID ’cause the credit cards in my father’s name are the only ones I have that Nova doesn’t know about, and nice hotels need a credit card for incidentals. The feds are the least of our problems. Where we stand right now, the feds would be doing us a favor to pick us up.”
“We didn’t have to stay somewhere this nice,” she argued. “We should’ve just gone somewhere that takes cash.”
“I’m not staying in a shithole. It bothers me, and you know why it bothers me,” he said with a glare. “If you knew where I landed when I first got to Miami last week, you wouldn’t give me merda about the hotel.”
“For a wedding?” She arched an eyebrow skeptically, ’cause Miami was clearly an issue. “Did something happen in Miami? Obviously you’re not as out as we all thought. Did you piss Don Moretti off?”
“The don pissed me off,” Tino growled at her. “And he knows it. That’s why he attacked you. His plan didn’t work, and now he’s trying to make me feel vulnerable. He’s trying to make me feel sixteen again. He’s scared.”
“He’s not the only one,” Brianna whispered as she sat down on the bed. She looked at her hands as everything hit her again. Her career was as good as gone when she had been working toward becoming a headliner since she was old enough to stand on her toes. For all the years since she and Tino had been apart, her job had been her sole source of joy, and knowing she was going to lose it after she disappeared without a word had her fighting tears. “I did the right thing. I was lonely and unhappy, but I was supposed to be secure, and you were supposed to be safe. Nova promised me.” She lifted her head and stared at him, seeing that Tino was standing there, his entire body tense, as if she had physically struck him. She wanted to feel bad, but damn it, he’d been washing hot and cold since Kentucky. “I’ve missed you. I’ve cried for you. I have closed my eyes a thousand times and tried to imagine it was you touching me instead of—”
“Don’t,” Tino cut her off, as he looked away, clenching his jaw. “Don’t talk about him touching you.”
“It makes you uncomfortable?” She almost shouted it. She was just that indignant. “It was my reality, Tino. While you were off enjoying Southern hospitality with your little strawberry-shortcake friend Alaine, I was living a lie for security, and now that’s gone too! I guess I deserve it. Maybe we both deserve it. I lied in front of God. You made me a liar.”
“I didn’t fuck Alaine. She’s married to Chuito Garcia, who, aside from being the reigning heavyweight UFC world champion, is also my best friend,” Tino said as if he didn’t hear the rest. “I haven’t touched her.”
She let out a bitter, mirthless laugh. “Oh yes, I’m sure you’ve been a pillar of chastity while we’ve been apart.”
“No.” He shook his head in denial. “I fucked my brains out since we broke up. I snorted enough blow to kill an elephant, and I drank so much Nova’s convinced I’m one more drink away from liver failure.”
“Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, Tino—” Brianna started, feeling her blood pressure spike.
“I have been dying without you,” Tino said before she could finish. “I’ve been slowly dying, and no one knew it. I couldn’t tell anyone. Then I had to give up the fucking coke ’cause I thought Nova was gonna off himself over the guilt. I’ve just had to sit in Kentucky and die. Sober.” He pulled off his shirt and tossed it over his jacket. “So don’t worry, baby. I’ve suffered for your security too, but if it makes you feel better, I’m gonna make sure they pay for fucking it up.” He walked past her to the bathroom, pulling at the button to his jeans as he did. “I’m gonna make them all pay. I’m done being Cosa Nostra’s whore.”
She flinched when he said it, because that word had so many terrible implications for Tino, but he just gave her a look that dared her to deny it as he went on, “They broke me a long time ago; now they’ve broken you too. That wasn’t supposed to happen. I’ve been screwed for the last time, and you can put it on my fucking tombstone. I’m done!”

THE ENFORCER SPOTIFY PLAYLIST

Author Q & A

1.     You said that each character has their own song. What is Tino’s song?

Favorite song. . . Funny, I’ve been asked that a lot. . . So I’d say a toss up between Lost Boy by Ruth B and Fight Song by Rachel Platten. . . Also, recently I found Neverland by VanLadyLove that I’ve been listening to as I write Enforcer’s Revenge and it fits very well.

2.     Which character has been the most difficult to write so far? Do you have conversations with the characters?

God, I’m boring. . . No. LOL!

I sit down and they write themselves. . . Sometimes in ways I never anticipated or in Tino’s case sometimes in ways I’m not sure I want him to. He’s very open in the bedroom. He has no boundaries and he did a few things in this book that I was like. . . NO NO NO! DON’T, TINO. . .  And you did it. . .

But those scenes came across so honest and so blatantly Tino. . .I couldn’t really change them. I had to leave them as they were. . . I owed Tino that.

LOL! Just cause I don’t talk to them doesn’t mean they’re not real (Lie to me if it’s not true!!)

3.     How do you plan to celebrate the release of The Enforcer?

I don’t know. I was discussing that with my husband the other day. . . I don’t drink much (Hard to believe reading these books!) but we’ll probably order take out from somewhere nice or perhaps make something different and fun! Maybe I can talk my husband into cooking for me ::winks::

4. What is the main factor the men of the Untamed Hearts series have in common?

I think they’re all very loyal men. They don’t trust easily, but once they do they’ll go the distance. They’re good friends to have. . . and extremely dangerous enemies.

5. How is Tino different from the others?

Tino is a bit more sentimental where the others are completely cynical, even though Tino has more reason than anyone to have lost that optimism. More than that he still wants to believe in happy endings. Maybe not for himself, but he fights for it when others around him need that support. In every book, Tino’s always been the one who stood by his brother or his friends when everyone thought they were crazy to risk it all for love, Tino was the one who got it. . . Maybe because he knows how precious true love is. He’s always known.

REVIEW

The Enforcer (Untamed Hearts, #3)

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I could never ever do this book justice with my review. The Enforcer is definitely the best I’ve read this year, maybe the best in years. I don’t know when I have ever been so hung over. I’m devastated that I reached the end of the novel. I’d give a great deal to be able to unread it and read it for the first time again, and I will absolutely be rereading this story. Those pitiful and strong Moretti boys totally owned my heart while I devoured the pages, and they still own it.
Children born to mistresses of made men are considered lower than dirt. After the death of their mother, Nova and Tino fall under the care of their big brother Romeo. Life isn’t wonderful, but the three of them are managing to scrape by and maintain a loving home. Everything changes when their father learns that Nova is a genius. Fourteen-year-old Nova becomes their father’s yes-man because he uses twelve-year-old Tino as his whipping boy in order to make Nova toe the line.
Tino is the sweetest, most beautiful person. He tries to always please others and make them feel good about themselves despite the horrible reality of much of his life. He is physically, emotionally and sexually abused. He’s forced to deal and murder. Despite all of this, he never looses his loving nature.
This story is running over with feelings. It has loads of sadness topped with epically endearing moments. There’s plenty of humor and cuteness, and of course it has the sexy and romantic covered. The Enforcer has it all. Readers get to know the boys and the men. Oh, my heart, this truly, truly is a must read.
Also, I think the author really did her homework on the ins and outs of organized crime. It really makes everything more interesting.

REVIEW

Target on Our Backs (Monster in His Eyes, #3)

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
We all know the type of man Ignazio is. He knows. Karissa knows. Everyone knows. He makes no apologies for his past, but he is trying to lead a different life now for Karissa’s sake. The problem is that the other players don’t want to let him go.
Target on Our Backs isn’t full of unexpected or shocking moments, but so much is life-changing or life-threatening. Naz and Karissa know how serious everything is, but the vibe surrounding them is subdued. They’re so strong and practical, the perfect matches for each other.
This author is a master at delivering a powerful, stoic male lead. The fearlessness isn’t bravado. He knows he isn’t invincible. He has nothing to prove. He isn’t afraid to die even. The only thing that concerns him is the woman he loves.
I enjoyed seeing a different side of Naz, the subtle exchanges that mean so much between him and Karissa. Getting to know Giuseppe a little more is a special treat. Some new characters from Naz’s past also pop up.
I was not expecting a third book. I thought the story was over. I didn’t think I wanted more, but I was wrong. I needed this book. It gave me that consumed feeling that I haven’t had in awhile. Even days later it’s still heavy on my mind. I loved it, and the ending is perfect.

Excerpt

Shock wasn’t a big enough word to describe how Lily felt, looking up to find Marc staring at her in that ballroom. Anyone else. It literally could have been anyone else – her father, Mickey Mouse, Hitler, and she would’ve been less surprised. Marcelle De Sant wasn’t real, anymore. He was a figment of her imagination, something that usually only appeared late at night, when she was alone and missing a more dangerous time in her life. Besides, wasn’t he supposed to be in Brazil!? Wasn’t he … anywhere she wasn’t? Wasn’t he not quite this good looking!? It’s unfair that such a dick can be so good looking. Dancing with her was bad enough. They’d fought, as had always been in their nature, but it wasn’t the same. She hated him. He’d lied to her, and he’d manipulated her, and he’d abandoned her. Told her she wasn’t good enough, then told her to go home. She loathed him. And yet, his arm was around her, and his eyes were so blue, and she’d missed him so much. Rat bastard. And of course, along with fighting, their other old friend made an appearance – bad luck. Next thing Lily had known, she was being dragged upstairs and shoved into a bedroom. There was arguing. There was kissing. So really, it was just like old times. The bedroom door swung open, but she barely registered it. Marc’s hands were moving over her body, pressing down on her breasts. He moved one lower, sliding it over her hip and around to her ass, pulling her away from the wall and into himself. She ran her hands down his chest and worked them under his jacket, smoothing around to his back. She bit into his bottom lip and that earned her yet another groan, followed by his tongue filling her mouth. Acting a part, acting a part. Not enjoying this at all. Nope, nooooope. People were in the room. Someone was barking questions in Spanish. Marc ignored them, and the hand on her ass suddenly moved and grabbed her thigh, yanking her leg up to his hip. She made a big show of pulling his belt apart, all while his mouth moved down her neck, leaving sloppy wet kisses in its wake. His hands were back at her chest and buttons flew as he yanked open her blouse. One hand went down the top of her tank, and suddenly Lily didn’t care that they had an audience. Marc was touching her again, that was all that mattered. “Excuse me!” a voice barked out. “You cannot be in here. You go now.” Marc’s free hand began rooting around in his pocket, and he pulled out a handful of pesos. He held them out to the nearest guard. “We go in twenty minutes,” he panted, shoving the money into an open hand. “Twenty minutes? Jesus, that’s disappointing,” she gave a husky laugh, then moaned when the hand on her breast squeezed. “Alright. Twenty minutes. We come back, and you leave room,” they were warned. But neither of them could answer, as their mouths met again and their tongues moved against each other. Her mind had registered the length of time since he’d left her, but her body didn’t notice it at all. It recognized his touch as if they’d been together just the day before; like no time had passed. It made it all even worse. Her brain had done a good job of pretending it was over him. But her body had longed for him for six months. Had missed him. Hadn’t understood why he’d left. That thought brought her to her senses, and Lily abruptly shoved him away. They were both breathing hard. Marc’s pants were undone and Lily’s blouse was hanging open. Her matte red lipstick was smeared across his mouth and chin. She took a deep breath and smoothed her hands over her hips. “Okay, we need to figure this out, right now,” she told him. “Alright,” he agreed, though he seemed a little dazed. She resisted the urge to smirk. “I didn’t come here for you. Nothing I’ve done in the last six months has been for you,” she lied. “You’re not a part of this. You were never a part of this, except for a couple weeks in Africa. I will not let you ruin this for me again, De Sant. When we walk out of this room, you’re going to leave the house, and I’m going to finish this job.” Marc’s daze wore off and he glared as he put his pants back to rights. “I’ve been a part of this since the moment you opened that safe, and you know it. What do you think I’ve been doing this whole time? Fucking vacationing? I’m not exactly getting paid for this shit.” “No one asked you to do any of this shit. You just took it upon yourself. You just ran away and decided to solve a problem that wasn’t even any of your business.” He flinched and Lily smiled. “I thought you’d understand,” he grumbled, glancing in a mirror that was behind her. He yanked off his bow tie and used it to wipe at lipstick around his mouth. “Then you thought wrong.”

Crazy woman living in an undisclosed location in Alaska (where the need for a creative mind is a necessity!), I have been writing since …, forever? Yeah, that sounds about right. I have been told that I remind people of Lucille Ball – I also see shades of Jennifer Saunders, and Denis Leary. So basically, I laugh a lot, I’m clumsy a lot, and I say the F-word A LOT.
I like dogs more than I like most people, and I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t drink. No, I do not live in an igloo, and no, the sun does not set for six months out of the year, there’s your Alaska lesson for the day. I have mermaid hair – both a curse and a blessing – and most of the time I talk so fast, even I can’t understand me.
Yeah. I think that about sums me up.

REVIEW

Out of Plans (The Mercenaries, #2)

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I loved the first book and wondered if this one would measure up. Of course it does!
Lily undergoes a bit of a transformation between when we saw her last and who she is now. She was absolutely a lot tougher than I will ever be, but she was no where near able to pull off the task she set out to do. She spends several months doing nothing but training and comes out the other side on a whole new level. I like how she still has her moments of doubt and the capability of showing heart despite her rougher exterior.
Kingsley is the person she seeks out for help. He has major combat skills. Before this point, I only knew him for the cool outward persona he gave. After getting to know him a little better, I see he has hidden layers including all the pain he’s in. Lily is like a balm for his soul, in my opinion. I really hope to see more of him in a future book.
Marc has never gotten over Lily. He left her in hopes of protecting her from the lifestyle, and now he’s taken up her fight as his own. His emotional growth path is just as deep as the changes Lily and Kingsley are going through. Marc has to accept things for what they are. He looses a little of his alpha broodiness while still retaining his warrior prowess.
There’s a bit of building up and information giving in the beginning, but after the action really gets started, it doesn’t stop. These three are on a mission and set to go at all times. I would truly love to see it all played out in film. I don’t know how the author came of with some of the scenes. They will definitely keep the reader on the edge of their seat. Although everything is as explosive as any action movie I’ve seen, it’s delivered in a believable, fact-checked kind of way. The characters are all total badasses with amazing expertise, but they aren’t immortals. They bleed and hurt, and they can only use what is available to them.
Marc, Lily and Kingsley are very damaged people who push all of their hurts into being powerful. Individually they are awesome, but together they are a formidable sight to behold.
This novel is an instant favorite for me and a must read in my opinion.

Stain by Francette Phal Release Day Review

12235349_499090706919148_493617791_o

Synopsis

“You’re like the sun…and I’m the stupid moon. Always chasing after you.”

I didn’t know it was possible to fall so deeply into someone. To drown so strongly into their bottomless depths coming up for air was unfathomable. Until he comes along, with his sun-hot radiance, and eclipses the candle that is me. He’s Lucifer before the fall, beautiful but the devil is in the way he looks at me. In the way his touch brands his name across every inch of my skin. His kisses possess my soul in the most sinful of ways.

Maddox Moore is my beginning and my end. Protector, friend, and lover—he’s become my sole religion. At his side I become fearless, in his arms I burn to cinders, and in worshiping him I lose myself and discover the person he sees in me. But nothing is forever. Moments are ephemeral. No matter how much you want something life inevitably reminds you that you can’t have it.

I’m damaged. He’s broken. We’re both covered in stains. Stains that make it impossible for us to hold onto each other.

REVIEW

Stain

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Maddox and Aylee are orphans, almost adults and victims of physical and sexual abuse. Before even knowing the other’s story, they’re drawn to one another. Dealing drugs, delivering violence and working the sex industry are how he stays ahead of his demons. She cuts herself and tries to disappear. Outwardly, he’s a gangbanger and she’s a good girl. No one knows what they really are inside.
Stain is a dark story, but in its way, the courtship between Maddox and Aylee is sweet. Seeing two damaged people, who previously seem dead inside, open up and fall in love is a beautiful thing. Of course, in the life they’ve been given, romance isn’t really an attainable quality.
This author has a talent for making anti-heroes that you can’t help but love. Maddox isn’t as bad on the evil scale as some, but he isn’t exactly a good guy either. He has major anger issues and has no need for people except to use them. This isn’t the darkest book ever, but just a warning; it does have rape and murder themes. If your reading tastes lean this direction, you should definitely check it out.
