Tied to Trouble by Megan Erickson Review

Between love and hate, there’s a whole lot of trouble…

Chad Lake only showed up at his sister’s party for the free food, but when he spots an uptight nerd at the edge of the crowd, he can’t resist trying to ruffle the guy’s perfect bow tie and impeccable hair. The hottie’s ready for him, though, and in the end, it’s Chad who’s left wide-eyed, his ears still ringing with the filthy things Bow Tie whispered in his ear. No one gets the upper hand on Chad. Ever.

Owen Hawkins has heard all about the cocky Adonis from Chad’s sister—the same sister who holds Owen’s career advancement in her hands. He has every intention of steering clear of the other man…until Chad’s sexy taunts push him too far. There’s something intriguing about Chad, and even though Owen knows that getting tangled up with the infuriating man is trouble, he can’t seem to stay away…

**This is part of an M/F series but can be read as standalone**

Tied to Trouble (Gamers #3)

This is a fun read about two men, who have major differences, getting under each other’s skin. Chad is the up for whatever type. He drives a motorcycle without a helmet, changes jobs frequently and flirts his way through life. Owen wears bow ties and is all about security and safety.
Being around Chad brings Owen out of his shell. He becomes bold when hit with Chad’s shameless teasing. Chad has never been put in his place like Owen does. It’s a big turn on for him. Also, it gives him that extra bump in the right direction. Chad has wanted a career for sometime, but knowing someone else believes in him strengthens his resolve.
Tied to Trouble is heavy on the sexy adventures and backs that up with great heart. I enjoyed reading it.

A FORTUNATE BLIZZARD by L.C. Chase Blog Tour Review

There are worse things than being stranded in a blizzard.
Artist Trevor Morrison has always appreciated the little things in life, treating each day as a gift. And with good reason: he’s been on the transplant-recipient list for too long now. When he learns just how numbered his days truly are, he resolves not to take them for granted. But he won’t be unrealistic, either—which means romantic commitments are off the table.
Marcus Roberts seems to have it all. He’s handsome, financially sound, and on the fast track to partnership at a prestigious law firm. In reality, though, his drive for success has meant no time for friends or relationships. Add in the fact that his family discarded him long ago, and he’s facing yet another holiday season alone.
When the biggest snowstorm to hit Colorado in decades leaves Marc and Trevor stranded at the same hotel, a chance encounter and a night of passion leads to more than either of them expected. Finding comfort in each other is a welcome surprise, but time is not on their side. Either they find a way to beat the odds, or they lose each other forever.

A Fortunate Blizzard

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
A Fortunate Blizzard has a Christmas miracle/Hallmark movie type feel to it. The two men meet during a blizzard. One is shooting for vibrancy with a life expectancy of less than a year. The other is perfectly healthy physically with as much spark as a walking corpse.
This mega storm, which begins as wrong place wrong time for them, turns into the event that changes everything. It’s easy for the reader to get caught up with the emotions. If you’re looking for a sexy guaranteed feel good story, you’ve found it.

Reckless (Pier 70 #1) by Nicole Edwards Blog Tour Review

Title: Reckless
Series: Pier 70 #1
Author: Nicole Edwards
Genre: Adult, M/M Romance
Published: October 27, 2015

He’s a walking contradiction…

Cam Strickland, one of the four owners of Pier 70 Marina, has earned the nickname his friends gave him years ago. Reckless. Sure. By definition. When it comes to fun, Cam hasn’t yet met a challenge he wouldn’t accept. In other areas, he’s likely far too cautious for his own good.

He’s his complete opposite…

Gannon Burgess, CEO of Burgess Entertainment, one of the top video game producers in the world, finds himself smack in the middle of the last place he would ever expect to be. But Gannon only thinks he is out of his element standing in the small marina office. Then… he meets Cam.

Rumor is opposites attract.

Sparks fly when this sexy, tattooed bad boy comes face to face with this buttoned-up gamer in glasses.

Can Cam and Gannon push one another out of their comfort zones? Or — thanks to the events that have shaped their lives — will the time they spend together prove to be just another reckless adventure? This one involving their hearts.

Reckless Excerpt © Nicole Edwards 2015
“That guy was totally checking you out,” Milly said when Gannon pulled out onto the road that would lead back to the office. “Holy shit. Did you see his tattoos? And those muscles.”
Yeah, Gannon had seen them, all right.
“And I’m pretty sure his nipples were pierced?”
Gannon didn’t take his eyes off the road, not wanting Milly to see the confusion on his face. “Pierced? Why would…? What makes you think that?”
“I could see the outline through his shirt. Sheesh. Pay more attention, Gannon.”
Oh, he’d paid plenty of attention. Too much attention.
Milly continued. “He was hot, right? You thought he was hot?”
Gannon chuckled, amused by her excitement. It wasn’t new for Milly. She was constantly attempting to set him up with someone, and on the off chance Gannon showed even the slightest hint of interest, she was all over it.
“You should call him,” she said, still rambling incessantly. “Ask him out. Or maybe he’ll call you. If he does, will you go out with him?”
“Take a breath.”
Milly made a dramatic effort to inhale and exhale, giggling as she did. “That was so worth the hour trip,” she told him.
“So does that mean we don’t have to go out on the boat then?”
She leveled him with a glare.
Couldn’t blame him for trying.
“I wonder if he’ll be the one to take us out on the lake next week.”
Gannon did, too. Part of him hoped he did; the other part, now that he’d had a chance to get his bearings, wasn’t sure he could handle being close to Cam for any extended period of time. As it was, every time he blinked, Gannon saw him as vividly as though he were still standing only a few feet away.
That couldn’t be good.
“When we get back to the office,” Milly began, “I’m gonna send out a memo and let the team know this is a mandatory team-building event.”
“Mandatory?” Gannon glanced over at her.
“If I give them an option, they’ll stay right there in the office.”
True, they would. He would, too.
Thankfully, Milly was silent for a few minutes. Long enough for Gannon to gather his thoughts about Cam.
He wondered if Milly was right. Maybe he should ask Cam out.
It’d been a long time since he’d felt this sort of attraction to a man; surely he shouldn’t ignore it. If he did, who knew how long it would be before it happened again.
You’ll see him on Tuesday, remember?
Okay, so the voice in his head had a point, but could he wait until then? What if he didn’t get to see Cam on Tuesday? What if someone else took them out on the boat? Then what would he do?
What if Cam wasn’t interested? What if Gannon made a fool of himself?
Gannon took a deep breath.
The pessimism didn’t suit him. He didn’t like to think negatively. Though he hadn’t always had the easiest life, he had set out years ago to think positive. He attributed his success to that, the fact that he didn’t look for doom and gloom around every corner.
So, yeah, what could it hurt?
“You’re thinking about him, aren’t you?”
Gannon shot a look at Milly. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Milly’s husky laugh filled the car. “And now I know you’re lying.”
“What makes you think that?”
“Because you didn’t answer my question with a question.”
Turning back to face the road, Gannon smiled to himself.
This woman knew him too well.

Reckless (Pier 70, #1)

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is the first book of the series so much of the novel is getting us aquatinted with the men who work at and own Pier 70 Marina. Cam, Roan, Dare and Teague are all close friends and all gay. This is Cam and Gannon’s love story peppered with bits of everyone else. Most of the storyline takes place at the marina with its gorgeous lake scenery, which is great for skinny dipping and siting back while drinking a beer. The dress code is swim trucks and flip-flops.
Gannon is from a totally different world than Cam. He’s a gamer and owns a world wide gaming company. Gannon is not so big on the outdoors and even has a fear of water. He’s all about the office life so much that he hasn’t taken the time to date or hook up with a man in some time.
Reckless is Cam’s nickname. He’s earned it by always pushing his boundaries with tattoos, piercings, extreme sports and such. Now that he’s in his 30’s he’s not looking for one-night stands. He’s more about taking it slow.
These two are not each others usual type at all, but there’s an attraction they have in each other that can’t be denied. Both are also at the stage where they are looking for something more.
I recommend this book for those wanting a romance. There are super hot sex scenes, but mostly it’s just about the characters’ day-to-day happenings. There are issues, which must be overcome, but it’s mostly a smooth ride.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I am extremely surprised by how deeply I got into this story. I read a lot and often find great books, but I was totally absorbed by this one. It has all the best qualities combined. The characters and situations are super realistic; yet, the hotness factor is sizzling. What makes that an even bigger deal is that it’s a ménage à. I love them, don’t get me wrong, but they’re usually not so believable. These three men are so different in size, stature, background, etc, but they all have great hearts. The unperfectness of the roles makes them more endearing. Each man is so multidimensional instead of fitting a certain sexy book mold. Sometimes when an author tries to make things more convincing, the story looses the fantasy for which readers are searching. That didn’t happen here. I know I’m going on and on about it, but I’m so pleased. It’s a real and rare talent in my opinion.
Tom and Cass have been together for years and are in love, but both put so much effort into their business that much like two ships passing in the night, they barely lay eyes on each other. They have always had an open relationship. Both have other ‘booty calls’ but only love each other.
“It’s not cheating, Jake. We choose to live this way. It might not make sense to you, but it works for us.”

This works for them for the most part except it doesn’t fix the loneliness of not having the one they love near.
Jake is a wealth of untapped talent, but he tends to be harder on himself than necessary.
“And what was it? The cure, I mean.”
“Learn something. Read a book. Explore someone. Anger is just a hole where your life could be.”

These men slowly work their way into each other’s lives and the reader’s heart. And everything goes from there. They have several outside issues causing strife and drama, and this is all new to them. Everything isn’t perfect, but the ride is a very touching one. If you’re just in the mood for a sexy fluff piece, I suggest you try something else, but I absolutely recommend this book for those wanting a book that is more.

Dorm Game by Daryl Banner Review

Title:  Dorm Game (The Brazen Boys, #1)
Author:  Daryl Banner
Cover & Interior Design:  Daryl Banner
Cover Model:  Nick Duffy
Photographer:  Simon Barnes
Genre:  M/M Contemporary
Release Date:  February 24, 2015

*** Each novella in The Brazen Boys series is a standalone M/M romance. They can be read in any order. ***

Andrew is the muscular dream boy from Intro to Psych. Michael is the lonely kid desperate for a new roommate. When a class project – and one very reckless decision – forces them together, an unstoppable game of teasing, torment, and pleasure begins.

Michael will soon learn that Andrew’s sexual interests are far from ordinary …

***Contains: M/M sexuality and adult language.

His eyes narrow. Andrew looks so sexy when his eyes narrow. Especially wearing nothing but those loose, acid-washed jeans sagged just enough to show the black waistband of his boxers, the brand printed in giant green block letters across it. With a voice as hard and unforgiving as iron, he repeats the question patiently to me. He knows how deeply I’m breathing without even listening. I’d swear he even knows my heart rate, my thoughts. He knows the answer in my jagged sighs and can tell whether it’s reward or punishment I crave. His strong jaw working to produce the words of the question, I’m distracted by the beauty of this boy I’ve let into my life, this boy who drips sexuality. He sweats and I’m horny. He rubs a spot on his shoulder and I’m hard in an instant. I’ve wanted Andrew for so long and now I have him. Or perhaps it’s more accurate to say, he has me. Fastened to a bed, at his total mercy, it’s pretty fucking clear I’m not going anywhere.

Daryl Banner is a writer and composer who graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in Theatre and Psychology.

He does not write in any single genre, as his stories tend to span several. He is most inspired by the smart and unlikely hero, but urges you (the reader) not to fall in love with them; they may deceive you with their innocence. He is thrilled by putting his characters in terrible situations where they must face choices and challenges that seem impossible to overcome.

Daryl Banner writes contemporary fiction, sci-fi/fantasy (both in medieval and futuristic senses), unique takes on the apocalypse and paranormal romance genre, as well as magic realism. He cannot wait to hear what you think about his stories and welcomes (and responds to!) all feedback.

Interesting tidbits: Daryl is also an obsessive piano player, video game enthusiast, and occasional actor. He’s been remixing video game music for over fifteen years, and is a passionate Final Fantasy fan. You can feed your ears with many of his remixes (as well as his original music) on his YouTube page “www.youtube.com/DarylBanner”. Also, he personally answers all emails he receives, so if you have some strange desire to write him, he may enjoy it. He currently resides in Texas.

Dorm Game (The Brazen Boys, #1)

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I’ve found the world’s greatest source of renewable energy, and it is horniness.
Daryl is one of my all time favorite authors. Up until now, what I have read from him has been more fantasy storyline and less arousal based. When I found out he was going to write a sexy M/M contemporary, I couldn’t wait to get my eyes on it.
I was not disappointed. He brought the sexy while still delivering that differently awesome ‘Daryl’ way of wording things.
Michael is kinda nerdish. He has the hots for Mr. big and muscular aka Andrew who loves to turn everything into a game. When they become partners on a project, the battles known as the dorm games ensue. Who will win, and does winning or loosing really get you what you want?
I found it to be a great read, fun and saucy.

Songbird Freed by Lisa Edward Review, Excerpt + Author & Character Interview

Songbird Freed (Songbird #3)

Lisa Edward

My name is Tara O’Connell, and I’ve always believed we control our own fate. That life is a journey with many roads, and the choices we make can shape our future.

Life has presented me with two paths and I’ve chosen one.

Was it right? Did I make the best decision?

After the uncertainty of the last twelve months, my destiny is now crystal-clear to me. I have a man I love more than words can express, a thriving business, and the best friends anyone could ask for. But just when I thought I could put the turmoil of my past behind me and move on, a life-changing phone call has rocked me to the core and turned my life upside-down once more.

To make matters worse, influences outside my control have taken hold and are shattering my perfect world.

But some things are worth fighting for.

Dreams can come true and I’ll do everything in my power to make them happen. But dreams can also be smashed into tiny pieces, and no matter how hard we fight or how hard we wish for something to be, sometimes with the hand we’ve been dealt, we can never win.

Unable to sleep, I slipped out of bed and went down to the living room to pace the floor. What I really wanted to do was play the piano until my nerves settled, but we didn’t have one in the apartment and it was too late to go down to Songbirds.
I stopped by the window to gaze out at the ocean from twelve stories up, as the full moon lit the tip of each wave when they rolled into shore. Maybe I should get dressed and slip out to Songbirds. Cole had been restless but had finally drifted into a troubled sleep. If I was quiet I could leave and come back without him even knowing.
Cole’s presence filled the room behind me before he made a sound.
“You don’t need to be up for a few more hours, babe,” he whispered, wrapping his strong arms around me from behind. “Come back to bed.”
Pressing my body back into his, I took comfort in the warmth of his skin. “I can’t sleep, I’m too worried about this trip.”
“Who said anything about sleeping?” His hot breath in my ear gave me goose bumps. “I can stroke your hair, help you relax.”
“I feel like I need to play, I wish we had a piano here.” I paused, contemplating what to do. “Maybe I’ll go down to Songbirds.”
Cole squeezed me tighter, kissing my hair. “Just stay with me, it’s our last few hours together.” He said it with such finality that I turned to face him.
“Last few hours before I go away, but I’m coming back.”
Cole diverted his eyes. “Maybe.”
Placing my hand on his cheek, I turned his head back towards mine. “What do you mean ‘maybe’? I’m not moving to Kabul permanently.”
“I know, but you may not be coming back … to me.”
I sighed. After everything we’d been through how could he doubt how much I loved him?
“I just don’t want to be alone tonight. There are going to be too many nights of sleeping alone,” he said sadly.
Taking his hand, I led him over to the couch and lay down, leaving enough room for him to lie beside me.
“This feels familiar,” he said with a smile. “Back to where it all began.”
“Is this where it began?” I asked, raising my eyebrows.
“This is where I realised I was in love with you. Before then I knew I had feelings for you, but I didn’t really understand them.” He chuckled softly. “I know I acted like a complete jerk sometimes, I just didn’t know how to deal with what was going on in my head, and my heart. I tried to tell myself it was just lust. I was desperate to spend time with you, but I convinced myself I only wanted to get into your pants.”
I slapped him playfully on the chest. “Good thing I didn’t give in to you then, isn’t it?”
He grabbed me and pulled me into his side, squeezing me close. As he gazed up at the ceiling, his mood seemed reflective. “I guess so, although if you had we would have been together a lot longer.” He draped his other arm around me and I gladly snuggled in. “It was when we were laying like this and your body was wrapped around mine, I realised you were the perfect fit.
“Do you remember the first night out here on the couch? You dribbled all down my neck,” he chuckled.
“Oh my God, I can’t believe you remember that,” I said, recalling how embarrassed I’d been.
“I remember everything,” he replied softly. “Every glance when you thought I wasn’t looking. Every smile, every hug where you squeezed me just a little bit tighter, or kissed my cheek and held it for a few seconds longer than a friend should. All those little things are what kept me going. They gave me hope that we would end up together.
“Pops kept telling me not to give up on you, that I would never fall in love with someone the way I love you, and he was right.”
He was grinding his teeth, his jaw clenched.
“What’s wrong, babe?”
Concern was etched all over his face as he looked down at me. “I always knew I had you on borrowed time, but I wanted longer, it hasn’t been long enough. I haven’t had enough time to make you fall in love with me, I mean really fall in love, the way you loved Riley.”
And there it was, the crux of the problem.
Leaning up on my elbow, I peered down at his gorgeous face. His eyes were boring into me, looking for answers, for reassurance.
“I love you, Cole. I think in a way I have loved you since we used to cuddle on the couch. I just couldn’t express it because I couldn’t betray Riley.”
“But now he’s back. Back in your life, and you’re going to be spending the next couple of weeks with him.” He ran his hand through his hair. “It’s going to drive me crazy not knowing what’s happening.”
“Nothing’s going to happen.” My hand was resting on his chest. I could feel his heart beat racing under it. “As far as I’m concerned, we’re together now. I’m not with Riley.”
“Yeah, but he doesn’t know that. He’s going to take one look at you and think his beautiful fiancée has come to rescue him, so you can run off and get married.” His voice was so full of concern, his face so drawn from stress.
He had a point, though. While I had taken the time to mourn the supposed death of Riley and move on emotionally, Riley’s head was likely to be in a completely different space. Trouble was, after what he had been through, I had no idea where that space would actually be. He might be withdrawn and completely shut down, or he might see me as his saviour and never want to let go.
I kissed Cole softly on the forehead, and then pressed mine to his. “I’m coming back to you. This is something I need to do, I can’t leave Riley there with those monsters. I couldn’t leave any of our friends there when I have the means to save their life. But it doesn’t mean this is the end of us.”
Cole ran his hand gently up my back and into my hair, fisting it lightly.
“You’re mine, Tara. He had his chance and he blew it. I know what he does is selfless and brave, but he put his career ahead of you. I put you ahead of everything. I’m not letting you go without a fight.” His lips brushed against mine as he spoke. “I love you Tara, with every part of me, I love you.”
“I love you too, Cole. I am yours, for as long as you want me.”
“How does forever sound?”
“Not long enough. Forever with you wouldn’t be long–”
His lips were on mine before I could finish the sentence. His arm wrapped around me, pulling me on top of him and against his firm body. I couldn’t catch my breath—it was as if Cole thought this would be our last night together, his kiss growing hungrier by the second.
He ran his hands down my sides to my hips, pushing them down firmly, then rocked his own hips up, pushing himself against me.
“Just one last time,” he said almost to himself, his kisses becoming ever more urgent.
I raised my head. “This isn’t the last time. Please don’t think that way.”
He nodded unconvincingly. “If something were to happen between you and Riley while you’re over there with him,” he hesitated, “you know what I mean.” He waited for me to nod. “But you do choose me, I don’t want to know about it. I know you would feel like you have to tell me, but I couldn’t deal with it.”
“Look at me,” I chastised. “Nothing is going to happen. I love you and I want to be with you. So enough silly talk and do something useful with that mouth of yours.”
He grinned. “Yes boss.”

Have you read the SONGBIRD trilogy?

The SONGBIRD trilogy is a love triangle with a difference. Two men fulfil different needs in Tara O’Connell, but she can only choose one. Will she go with her heart or her head, and will it be the right decision?

Book 1: Songbird

Book 2: Songbird Caged

Instrument— Okay, I’m gonna keep this clean and choose a musical instrument. Although I play guitar in the band, I write all my music on the piano, and of course it’s Tara’s instrument of choice, so I’m gonna say piano is my favorite
Song— It changes all the time, but I love Best Day of My Life by American Authors
Car— I used to love my little sports car, but I’m really enjoying driving my Porsche Cayenne Turbo S
Part of the Female Anatomy— Everything between the top of the head to the tip of the toes. I love everything about a woman. Do I have a favourite? It would have to be Tara’s heart
Jungle or Desert? Maybe desert – less bugs
Art or Science? Definitely Art, it’s in my blood
Deep Sea Diving or Sky Diving? Sky diving, although I’ve never done it, I reckon it would be exhilarating
Giving or Receiving? Giving or receiving what? I used to be a taker but now I love giving. I guess it depends who the other person is. There’s nothing better than making Tara happy.

Color— Purple, has been since I was a little kid
Article of Clothing— jeans
Sports Team— not a huge sports fan, but if Australia is playing anyone, I have to go for the Aussies
Candy— M&Ms – love the red ones
Drama or Chorus? I’d go for chorus, anything musical is a hit with me
Ocean or Swimming Pool? Definitely ocean – we have the best beaches in Australia
Rain or Snow? Snow because it’s rare where I live, so it’s a treat
Paperback or E-Reader? I collect paperbacks, but I love my Kindle to read, so much easier

While Lisa Edward has called Melbourne Australia home for her entire life, she has lived and worked in England, and travelled through most parts of Europe and the United States.

She loves nothing more than spending time with her husband and beautiful daughter, or curling up into the early hours of the morning with a great novel.

Her deep appreciation for literature was nurtured from a young age, being taught to respect books and get lost in their stories. She enjoys reading honest and realistic novels that are relatable, thought provoking and leave a lasting impression.

She can’t write without music playing, using the emotions from different songs to invoke that of her characters.

Lisa takes inspiration from her own life experiences, the people around her and those she has met in her travels.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love when a book really makes me feel. Songbird Freed very much did that. Barely into the pages, I was already fighting the tears. I laughed, cried, sulked, worried, fumed, melted…my emotional cup ran over.
“Hey,” I said, squeezing his hands so he would look at me. “Don’t worry. I’m leaving my heart here for safe keeping.” He half smiled. “Yeah, but you’re taking mine with you.”

This is the finale in a love triangle. I knew who I wanted Tara to end up with a long time ago, but things don’t always go as the reader wants so I was nervous. And the hardest part of all is that both men are wonderful. Most women would love to have either.

Riley is a strong, heroic helicopter pilot in the Special Forces. They were together first. He always takes care of others and chooses to do his duty to whomever he feels the obligation instead of thinking of what he should do for himself. Commitments come before desires.

Cole is a sultry, fun playboy musician and heir to old money. Cole and Tara share the connection of music. They get each other in ways she and Riley can’t. Cole has been promised to marry another since childhood though. Is he brave enough to stand up to his family?

Throughout this series, whenever Tara would seem to be solid with one of these men, something would happen to throw the other back into her life. All three must finally decide to take a stand. I believe things went the best way they possibly could, but I still hurt for the other man. The ending was beautiful. The whole book was beautiful. So much detail went into causing the reader to experience each sentiment, action and response.
I pursued Tara because from the moment I laid eyes on her, she was all I could see in my future.

I also want to give special props to the fact that although it was a love triangle filled with drama and angst, the main characters behaved maturely for the most part in this book. They didn’t hold back, just came out and said how they felt, what they did, etc. There weren’t as many misunderstandings as there could have been, and I appreciated the forwardness and honesty parts.

Out of the Darkness by Simone Nicole Review + Author & Character Interview

TITLE: Out of the Darkness (The Darkness Book 2)

AUTHOR: Simone Nicole

RELEASE DATE:  October 182014

She ruined me. The walls I’d built were for a reason, locking myself in my own personal prison was out of necessity. Now, with the rubble at my feet, I could do nothing but watch as she ripped my soul in two, taking the half she owned with her.

The need to settle down, to find that missing piece, for the all-consuming love, was never Drew’s plan. He’d spent the better part of a decade suppressing all memory of love, of life. He told himself he had the essentials; the impressive apartment, the successful club, the simple uncomplicated life he’d worked so hard to create. All he needed. Until Mia.

She entered his life like wildfire, burning through his world and destroying all pretences of simplicity, bringing out everything he’d fought to deny.

Longing. Warmth. Love.

She made him want it all but Amelia lived in the darkness. It had always been her constant, yet terrifying companion. A shadow she’d never been able to out run and one fateful night, it finally consumed her. Shattering both their worlds and burying them deeper in the dark.

Drew will stop at nothing to save her, for their happy ever after but, Mia isn’t the only one with demons … it’s a long way out of the darkness.

I turn on the shower on full strength, the fog filling the room within seconds as I gingerly take off my jacket, discarding it on the tiled floor of my bathroom. I remove my shirt and tie, the fabric sticking to the cold sweat I’ve been harbouring for what feels like days. I kick of my shoes and socks, tossing my belt along with my trousers on the pile and step into the scorching heat.
The burn is instant, my skin turning pink with the force but the pain that should have greeted me is just a distant memory, I still feel naught. I start to scrub at my skin, harder and harder, trying to erase the numb deprecating feeling that’s over taking me. Until every inch of my body looks raw but still I feel naught, just a vague memory of what should be there. I give up, again, and shut off the shower.
The silence that follows almost deafening but I continue to stand there, with no will to move. The fog has long gone and my body is covered with goose bumps when I finally bend to scoop up my discarded clothes. I entertain the idea of burning them, watching the flames engulf the rancid memories attached to them but I stop mid thought when my foot makes contact with a sharp edged card on the way out and my heart skips a beat, slowly starting to gain speed as the significance comes to the surface.

Book 1

TITLE: Ahead of the Darkness

AUTHOR: Simone Nicole

RELEASE DATE:  March 13, 2014

It has been a long, long time since I’ve seen your little face, chérie. Not once did you visit. That really hurt; after all, it was thanks to you I was convicted. That’s not something you forget.

I thought it was time— a visit was due. Seeing as you wouldn’t come to me, I thought it only right I come to you. Sadly, you weren’t home, but your furry feline was more than accommodating . . .

I’ll be seeing you soon, mon chérie. I’ll always find you . . .

For six years, a letter has dictated Amelia’s future. She’s running from a past that refuses to stop, always trying to get one step ahead. Amelia is clever and resilient, and refuses to slip up.

Relying only on herself, she’ll be anything and anyone she needs to survive. But everyone slips up . . . eventually. You can’t always stay ahead of the darkness.

Self-confessed chocoholic and undiagnosed crazy person, Simone can be found climbing Himalayan mountaintops like a ninja, sky diving backwards and rubbing shoulders with billionaires. She is also full of crap, but can read backwards and upside down, the one plus of being dyslexic.

Simone loves all things Disney and alcoholic, and is rarely seen not reading, writing or wearing lipstick, usually of the red variety.

Food— I love food… Desserts? I have a crazy sweet tooth so most of my favorites are pies or tarts, lol.
Song— It changes constantly. At the moment… Gosh. This is so sad… Taylor swift’s blank space. (I think that’s it) it’s been playing all week at work and I can’t get it out of my head lol.
Vacation spot— This is hard! I want and love going everywhere. Europe and Hawaii are top favs.
Sport— Does sprinting with words count? Tonsil hockey? Lol, I like ice hockey.
Color— Purple! A rich deep purple. There is a car company in Aus, Ford, and they have the perfect purple!! It’s a shame I don’t like the brand. Lol
Singing or dancing?
I suck at both, unless inebriated, then both hehe. I sing quietly to myself but I love to go out dancing.
Reading or writing?
Seriously? Hardest question ever! Next to sex or chocolate. Both, always both. They go hand in hand.
Art or Science?
Art. I did love science in school and entertained the idea of being a forensic scientist.
Anything you would like to add? I do have awesome taste in music, I swear! Just don’t ask my sister…

Drink— Whiskey, Scottish of course
Movie— Braveheart. I know it’s a wee bit cheesy, mind. I blame Mia. She make me watch it all the time.
Perfume— Mia’s soft almost vanillary scent. Oh and sawdust/plaster/paint. I love getting me hands dirty.
Car— I’m nae really into cars, mind. But I do love my Ducati.
Part on a woman’s body— Oh that’s easy. The parts attached to Mia. Ye want one part? I cannae decide between the swell of her hips, or the curve of her arse. Nae, the tempting, smart mouth of hers. I’m also rather partial to her legs.
History or Geography?
History. I loved learning about the wars in Scotland between clans. Actually, it might be why Braveheart is my favourite. Dinnae tell Mia that.
Drawing or Building?
Building, though I can draw, like. The two go hand in hand for me. I draw, then I create.
Giving or Receiving?
Giving. Aye, most definitely giving.
Anything you would like to add?
The way Mia’s toes curl up when I… Oh, aye. Ah, no. I think ye’re good. Thank ye.

Out of the Darkness (The Darkness, #2)Out of the Darkness by Simone Nicole
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

In this book, Mia’s past has met her present. She’s been running for years, never taking the time to settle, until she fell for Drew. Now the one chasing her has caught up. He is completely psycho, and his one desire is to cause her as much pain as possible.

I was very nervous for Mia going into this book for the reasons stated above, but I was more than willing because I also fell for Drew right after meeting him. What it is about a Scottish man? Anyways, I don’t want to go into specifics which would give too much away in spoilers, but there is a lot of suffering and distress for some of this story. Really Drew and Mia are still getting to know one another. Also they have all these bad events and consequences coming at them. All of this would be a huge strain on any couple.

I enjoyed getting to learn more about Drew’s background. Much of Mia’s was already revealed, but we also dug deeper into her history. I thought the characters and storyline were great. One thing that I couldn’t quite understand was the lack of police involvement. That bit was not believable to me. I must mention the gym scene.  It was awesome, both funny and sexy.  The best part in my opinion is Drew. He is the most understanding, kind, considerate, loving man, and yet, he still manages to be gruff and alpha when needed. I was melty each time he comforted her.

“I’ve got ye, love…I’ll pull ye out of the darkness.”
