Slide by Garrett Leigh Review

Roads: Book One

Don’t look back. Don’t you ever look back…

Shy tattoo artist Ash has a troubled past. Years of neglect, drug abuse, and life on the streets have taken their toll, and sometimes it seems the deep, unspoken bond with his lover is the only balm for wounds he doesn’t quite understand.

Chicago paramedic Pete is warmth, love, and strength—things Ash never knew he could have, and never even knew he wanted until Pete showed him. But fate is a cruel, cruel mistress, and when nightmares collide with the present, their tentatively built world comes crashing down.

Traumatic events in Pete’s work life distance him from home, and he doesn’t realize until it’s too late that Ash has slipped away. Betrayal, secrets, and lies unfold, and when a devastating coincidence takes hold, Pete must fight with all he has to save the love of his life.

REVIEW

Slide (Roads, #1)

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Slide is a story about two young adult men becoming roommates and then falling for each other. It’s just their day-to-day work and living basically, but it speaks to me on such a profound level. The way it is written made me feel like I was really in their heads. The phrase Still Waters Run Deep comes to mind when I think of this book and of Ash’s character.
Both Ash and Pete are bisexual. Both are functioning adults for the most part, but neither is really settled in life, especially Ash. I was so drawn to them both. I think Ash will have a piece of my heart forever. I wanted to wrap him up and make him feel safe. (Following sentence might be considered a spoiler) –> When Ash was found on the streets, and the truth about him being sick and turning to no one came out, it broke my heart.
My emotions have been thoroughly worked over. They need each other, and I need more of them, so I’m definitely on to book 2.

ELUDE by Rachel Van Dyken Review

The sixth book in the internationally bestselling Eagle Elite Series.
*Interconnected Stand Alone*
Twenty-Four hours before we were to be married–I offered to shoot her.
Ten hours before our wedding–I made a mockery of her dying wish.
Five hours before we were going to say our vows–I promised I’d never love her.
One hour before I said I do–I vowed I’d never shed a tear over her death.
But the minute we were pronounced man and wife–I knew.
I’d only use my gun to protect her.
I’d give my life for hers.
I’d cry.
And I would, most definitely, lose my heart, to a dying girl—a girl who by all accounts should have never been mine in the first place.
I always believed the mafia would be my end game–where I’d lose my heart, while it claimed my soul. I could have never imagined. It would be my redemption.
Or the beginning of something beautiful.
The beginning of her.
The end of us.

REVIEW

Elude (Eagle Elite, #6)

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
4.5 stars
Elude has all the amazing character chemistry that I’ve come to expect from RVD’s Eagle Elite Series. The members do kill, and sometimes bad things happen, but they are all true family. They argue, pick at each other and support one another. Often they have troubled pasts or some block they have to overcome to move forward.
Sergio is a perfect example of this. In the previous book of this series, we found out that he was a double agent between the FBI and Mafia. He did so to save members of the family, but still it goes against everything. Now, he has direct orders to marry and protect a girl wanted by the Russia mob. Also she’s terminally ill. So yeah, it’s quite the explosive and emotional storyline.
I worried over the direction the five families were headed. I laughed at the digs the guys and their women got in on each other. I teared up during the emotional times (be ready for tears). And of course I was, as always, surprised by Luca’s mastermind black folders he left behind.
I love this series, and I can’t wait to find out what the crew is up to next!

Excerpt
“Hey there,” a deep voice rumbled against my ear.
When I turned around, I was eye level with a wall of leather with white patches sewn into it. One read VICE PRESIDENT and the other, BEACH BASTARDS. The man wearing the vest had long blonde hair that draped over to one side of his head, revealing the shaved area beneath. He had a beard, not stubble, a full-on beard that was a few inches long and very well groomed. He stood well over six feet, his frame lean yet very cut and muscular. I couldn’t tell what color his eyes were because his lids hung heavy and were slightly reddened. His entire neck was covered with colorful tattoos and when he went to light a cigarette I noticed that the backs of both of his hands and were covered in ink as well.

“Hey,” I answered back, trying to assert my newly found false confidence.

He was beyond attractive. He was gorgeous. If I had to end up in someone’s bed, I imagined that being in his wouldn’t be half-bad. He sniffled, drawing attention to the light dusting of white powder trapped in his nostrils.

“They call me Bear. You belong to anyone?” he asked seductively, leaning in toward me.

“Maybe…you?” I winced at my choice of words. Of all the fucking things I could have said, THAT was what came to mind? Stupid fucking mouth. Nikki was right. I spoke first and thought second.

Bear chuckled. “I’d love that, beautiful, but I got something else in mind.”

“Oh, yeah? What would that be?” I asked, trying to keep my tone light although my mind and heart were racing.

“This party? It’s for my buddy. And he was down here for a total of thirty minutes before he hightailed it upstairs to drown himself in a bottle of Jack. He’s like a cat in a tree, can’t seem to talk him down. It’s understandable, seeing as he’s been away a while, but I figure you can help me out.”

He hooked his finger into the front of my skirt and slowly dragged me toward him until my nipples were flush up against his chest. He pressed his fingers into the skin right above my public bone and I resisted the urge to jump back by biting down on my bottom lip.
“The BBB’s have never really been his thing.” He paused when he saw the confused look on my face at his abbreviation. “Beach Bastard Bitches.” He explained. “But you? You’re new. You’re different. You’ve got this cute little innocent thing going on, but I know you’re not or you wouldn’t be at this kind of party if that was your deal. I’m thinking he’ll like you.” Bear brushed his lips against the side of my neck. “So maybe you go up there. Make him happy for me. Make little him happy by wrapping those gorgeous lips around his cock for a while. Then when you’re done, bring him back down here to civilization. And maybe later, if you’re a good girl and do what you’re told, we can go back to the clubhouse and have some real fun.” He grazed his teeth along my earlobe. “Think you can you do that for me?”
“Yeah, yeah I can do that,” I said. My skin prickling from his touch. And I could do it.
I think.
“What’s your name anyway?” Bear’s hand slowly traveled up the back of my leg, pushing up my skirt, it came to rest on my ass cheek, which was then exposed to anyone who might have been looking in our direction.
“Doe. My name is Doe,” I breathed.
“Fitting.” He said with a chuckle. “Well, my innocent looking little Doe.” Bear leaned in close and surprised me by planting a soft kiss on the corner of my mouth. His lips were soft, and he smelled like laundry detergent mixed with liquor and cigarettes. I was just beginning to think that the kiss meant that he’d changed his mind and didn’t want me to send me away to his friend, but no such luck. He pulled away abruptly and turned me around by my shoulders so that I was facing the stairs. He swatted me on my ass, propelling me forward. “Up the stairs you go, sweetheart. Last room at the end of the hallway. Be good to my boy, and me and you will get to play later.” He sealed his words with a wink and as I made my way up the stairs I turned back and flashed him a fake smile. I hoped the guy at the end of the hallway was like Bear, because then maybe it wouldn’t be so bad.
Then a thought hit me that had me fighting back the tears that sprung from my eyes with a sudden force that almost took me to my knees.
I’d officially sold myself, and the price was far more than any dollar amount.

REVIEW

King (King, #1)

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This book is filled with very conflicted characters. The couple of the book are King and Doe. King is a small time crime boss. He has come to the realization that he wants to change some things in his life, but he has a difficult time not falling back into old habits. Doe has found herself homeless with no memory of how she got this way. She is trying to make the best of her situation and find something better. This book is a journey for them both.
Two other characters with lots of air time are Preppy and Bear. They add depth to the story. King has been friends with both for most of his life. He and Preppy are extremely close.
I cannot tell why because it would a spoiler, but I did not agree with what King’s main goal is. He has a long way to go before he’s even near any shape for that, as in total life makeover. Him not recognizing this made him loose some appeal for me. I think this is probably just my personal issue and won’t affect other readers.
The overall plot is very exciting and has so many shockers. I love that I often wasn’t expecting what happened. The author didn’t pull any punches. It’s a wild ride, definitely a stand out book. Some parts head off into the darkish area, but I wouldn’t categorize it as a dark read. It has a wonderful and emotional backstory—these parts really pulled me in. And none of the characters are safe from atrocities. I made it to the end and thought that I knew how the rest would go. Wham! Never even saw that coming. I am very much wanting to read the next book.

Afraid To Fly by S.L. Jennings Release Blitz Review

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000035_00037]

Afraid To Fly

The Fearless Series: Book Two

S.L. Jennings

Synopsis

I’d like to tell you that I’m ok.

That the meaningless sex with countless women has somehow numbed the pain. That it’s deciphered the constant confusion in my head. Eased the self-hatred that sinks into my gut every time I look in the mirror.

I’d like to tell you that time heals all wounds.

That we evolve and grow into well-adjusted, stable adults, set on a path to right the world’s wrongs. That we are not our past…we are not our pain.

I want to tell you all those things. Hell, I want to believe all those things. But I’d be lying. I’m good at that. Living a lie is the only way I truly know how to survive. But the day I saw her, I stopped surviving. I stopped existing. And for the first time in 24 years, I started living.

She brought me back to life. Set me free and sent my soul soaring. Made this useless shell of a man feel like…something. Something whole and real and good.

She saved me.Although she believes I wasn’t even worth saving.

Excerpt

It was if my body had known what my soul needed to mend itself from the verbal assault that had left me open and bleeding. Sex was that healing balm for me. And this was exactly the place where I could find it.

None of the dancers here were prostitutes, and I never paid to get laid. Ever. They fucked me because they wanted me. And I fucked them because I needed them. It was an even trade.

Contrary to popular belief, I didn’t stick my dick in just anything, and other than Cherri, had only been intimate with two other girls there: Skylar, a hot sophomore at UNC Charlotte, stripping her way through college, and Velvet, a tattooed, purple-haired vixen from England who fucked like a porn star and cursed like a sailor.

Right now, I needed Velvet. If anyone could make me forget the last twenty minutes, Raven’s razor-sharp words and myself, it was her.

My legs carried me inside, despite the numbness I felt. I didn’t want to be here, but I needed to be. And once I had the soft silkiness and warmth of a woman’s skin against me, I’d feel a helluva lot better. Luckily, Velvet was there for a day shift, working the lunch crowd in her usual getup of velvet and chains. Today she wore a cut-out thonged romper that left little to the imagination. And that was fine by me. I was tired of thinking anyway.

“Hey love,” she smiled as I approached. Her lips were painted a deep, dark eggplant purple that almost looked black. I’d have the color smeared all over me within the hour, most of it in places invisible to the public.

I didn’t waste any time. I didn’t have it in me to go through the motions and pretend I was here for anything other than sex. I leaned in close to her ear, letting my lips brush her earlobe in that sensual way I knew would get her hot, and whispered, “Back room in 10.” Then I quickly made my way to the bar to slam a shot of tequila.

She was there when I arrived, lounging on a plush loveseat with her heeled boots propped up on the arm. She looked at me with sin gleaming in her heavily lined eyes and gave me a slow, Cheshire grin. “Someone’s awfully anxious today.”

I was already loosening my tie as I stalked towards her and said, “Clothes off, boots on and get on your knees.”

Fear Of Falling

The Fearless Series: Book One

S.L. Jennings

I can’t remember the last time I felt completely safe. Security seemed more like a luxury to me, reserved for those who were fortunate enough to have picture perfect childhoods. For those who didn’t bear the ugly scars that keep me bound in constant, debilitating fear. I’ve run from that fear my entire life. But when I met him, for once, I couldn’t run anymore.

He scared the hell out of me in a way that excited every fiber of my being. It wasn’t the tattoos or the piercings. It wasn’t the warmth that seemed to radiate from his frame and blanket me whenever he was near. It was just…him. The scary beautiful man that threatened to alter 23 years of routine and rituals, and make me face my crippling fear.

My name is Kami and I am constantly afraid. And the thing that scares me the most is the very thing I want.

“Don’t worry,” he smiled, pulling me into the hard warmth of his chest. “I’ve got you. I’ll always catch you when you fall.”

And just like that, Blaine had staked his claim on the untouched part of me that no living soul had ever moved. He had captured every fear, every reservation, and crushed them in the palm of his inked hand.

REVIEW

Afraid to Fly (Fearless, #2)

This story is very deep. I teared up several times. Dom is one of the sweetest and most tragic personas ever. I loved him right away. He had a total crap past and has turned it into motivation to save others from the same. The man he is now combined with all of the flashbacks of his experiences— Oh! My heart. Be prepared for floods of emotion.
I didn’t connect as much with the female lead or her story. I think I absolutely loved this book until around 80 percent. I still really liked the story overall, but some of the last 20 percent took away from the previous amazing connection and flow.
Dom will always stand out as one of my favorite characters. He touched a special place in my heart. The author really outdid herself creating such a lovingly conflicted role. He’s the perfect sweet dream.

Irrevocable by Shay Savage Review

Irrevocable (Evan Arden Book 5)
by
Shay Savage
May 26, 2015

Have you ever made a mistake?
A big one?
I’m back in Chicago and back in business with my boss, Rinaldo Moretti. So much for my run at a normal life. There are some new faces in the organization, and someone’s been cooking the books. Personally? I think they’re after more than a just little cash. If I have any hopes of flushing out the traitor, I’m going to need to find a good hooker to help me sleep at night.
As the bodies pile up, I find solace in Alina. There’s something about her, something different. She understands me without asking a lot of questions. It’s as if she’s known me for years, yet we’ve only just met. If I weren’t so distracted by business, I’d try to figure out her story. She’s the only one keeping me grounded as my world spins out of control.
I’m going to lose the one man who has ever meant anything to me – the only man to ever call me son. I want to deny his request, but there is no avoiding what awaits me. I never wanted any of this, but I’m out of options, and time is running out.
Some choices have unforeseen consequences, and some choices are simply irrevocable.

Irrevocable (Evan Arden, #5)

Even though Evan is a very flawed man, I have loved him since the beginning. This has been a 5 star series for me. I was super excited to receive more of his story.
In this installment, Evan has returned to his boss, the only person he feels deserves his loyalty. He still has the same issues with his mental disorders and still picks up hookers in order to sleep. I’ve always be attracted to how disturbing he is. He still kills like it’s nothing and has no concern for his own life.
This story seemed to switch it’s main focus several times. When we were headed one direction something would happen to make it seem like the overall point was something else. I found it to be a little difficult to keep up because it was like warring storylines battling to come to the top.
Evan and Sebastian will always be favorites of mine. I am glad I read this book, and I recommend it to other fans of the Evan Arden series. It will definitely keep you guessing.

SILVER BASTARD by JOANNA WYLDE Blog Tour Review

SILVER BASTARD.jpg

Blurb
First in the new Silver Valley series from the New York Timesbestselling author of the Reapers Motorcycle Club Novels.
Fourteen months. For fourteen months, Puck Redhouse sat in a cell and kept his mouth shut, protecting the Silver Bastards MC from their enemies. Then he was free and it was time for his reward–full membership in the club, along with a party to celebrate. That’s when he saw Becca Jones for the first time and set everything in motion. Before the night ended he’d violated his parole and stolen her away from everything she knew.
Five years. It was five years ago that Puck destroyed Becca and saved her all in one night. She’s been terrified of him ever since, but she’s even more terrified of the monsters he still protects her from… But Becca refuses to let fear control her. She’s living her life and moving forward, until she gets a phone call from the past she can’t ignore. She has to go back, and there’s only one man she can trust to go with her–the ex-con biker who rescued her once before.

Puck will help her again, but this time it’ll be on his terms. No more lies, no more tears, and no more holding back what he really wants…

Excerpt
Ignoring him, I settled back on my stool and surveyed the room. We sat in Becca’s section, and what I saw wasn’t making me happy. I knew she was a good waitress, but she’d just started here and it showed. Not only had she fucked up several orders, she didn’t quite seem to get the rhythm of the bar. That wasn’t my problem, though.
My problem was that despite these fuckups, nobody seemed to mind. I had a nasty suspicion this was due to her perky tits, friendly smile, and tight little ass that seriously just needed a bite taken right out of it.
She really, really needed to get a new job—every man in the place wanted her. Including me. Especially me. I hated them. All of them. I shifted uncomfortably, because just like every time I shared a room with her, my pants had gotten tight.
Torture. Becca was just so fucking fine on every level, and not just her looks. There was something about the way she carried herself . . . I couldn’t put my finger on it. Like she was dancing through life to some song nobody else could hear. Never met another woman like her—she wasn’t just sexy, she was a survivor and I admired that.
She’d grown up so much since the first time I’d met her. Bigger boobs, a nice fullness to her ass that was nowhere close to fat but would be perfect to hold tight while I fucked her. Her lips had plumped, too, and over the years she’d gained a sparkle in her eyes that turned her from pretty to 100 percent spectacular.
Not to mention how she’d tasted.
Nearly blew in my pants when I’d taken that mouth. Just the memory got me hard. Make that harder. Fucking basket case.
When I’d pulled up to find her sitting outside with Collins, a thousand murder scenarios ran through my mind. And yeah, I know I covered that already, but if anything ever deserved empha- sis, this was it. Collins needed to die. I didn’t care how nice he was. After that I’d throw Becca on the back of my bike and make a run for the hills . . .
Okay, so there were a few problems with the plan, the top one being she hated me. Or she should—I’d certainly given her cause. Boonie nudged me.

“Did I mention you’re pathetic? You want her, take her. Other- wise let it go because you’re an embarrassment to all men in general and to the Silver Bastards in particular.”

REVIEW

Silver Bastard (Silver Valley, #1)

There are some authors that you just know you will like their book because of previous experience. She is definitely one of these authors. If you liked/loved her other MC stories, you should like/love this one also. It’s obvious she still went to great lengths to be authentic. Everything feels believable. It’s not all pretty; yet, it’s perfect. That being said, I feel that this one is different from the rest. While it still has plenty of bikers and one is the male lead, it centers more around the town. Many of the characters are not members of an MC. Another difference is how the main couple meet. It’s very nontraditional and darker than her previous books in my opinion.
Puck is an honorable man, but he’s not exactly a good man. The distance he goes in both directions makes him a bit of an enigma. We saw in Reaper’s Stand that he isn’t a ‘pretty boy’ and isn’t afraid to make the tough calls. His number one priority is his club (Silver Bastards). He’s not in the business of making friends; although, he does manage to become best friends with Painter (Reapers) after spending over a year in jail together. There’s something about Becca that calls to his inner self also.
That’s when it hit me. Someday I wanted to have kids, and in my head they looked like Becca.

Becca is a tragic and damaged character. She has one of the worst mothers ever. Sadly she still lets this terrible person have control over her. On the plus side, she is strong and goal oriented in life. Puck simultaneously saved and hurt her in the past, and she has never gotten past the fear, safety, excitement and attraction she feels whenever she sees him.
This novel has themes of overcoming pain and the day-to-day struggles in life. It also has aspects of sexual abuse and murder. Nothing is terribly graphic, but it’s there. The preview for the next book sounds interesting, seems it may be an Irish mob tale, and I’m super looking forward to it.

RICOCHET by Heather C Leigh ♥♥ BLOG TOUR Review

RICOCHET BANNER

Title: Ricochet: Locked and Loaded (Ricochet, #1)
Author: Heather C. Leigh
Releasing March 29, 2015

goodreads

Blurb

Rick “Ricochet” Brennan served eight years as an elite Marine special ops Force Recon soldier. After an injury, and the terrible memories from that night, he retires and goes to work for his former Command Officer, Howard “Mack” McEvoy, at his training center in Atlanta. Sanctum MMA appears on the surface to be a normal gym, training elite fighters to be the best. Except each trainer, hand-picked by Mack, possesses a special background that allows Mack to run one of the best-kept secrets in the country. When twenty-four year old Quinn Wallace finally escapes her abusive husband, she turns to her father’s old Marine Corps buddy, Mack, for help. Broken and skittish, Quinn finds herself surrounded by large, intimidating men— men who could easily overpower her. She avoids them the best she can, but when Rick turns out to be more than just a rough fighter with bruised knuckles, she finds herself wondering if she can allow herself to trust again. Ricochet is a full-length novel to be released as three parts. ***This book contains hot sweaty men, sexy scenes for those over 18, and uncomfortable, sometimes violent scenes.***

Excerpt

“Tucker? What the fuck are you doing up here? Where’s Quinn? Is she sick?” The wiry man pushed his glasses up on his nose, glancing at Rick from behind his computer screen. “In back.” He stabbed his thumb over his shoulder in the direction of the main gym. “I’m just watching the door for her while she trains.” “Trains?” Rick growled. “What the fuck does that mean?” Tucker sat up straight and crossed his arms, giving Rick his full attention, something the socially challenged man almost never did. “What’s it to you, Ricochet?” Rick scowled at Tucker’s use of his nickname, knowing that the man was baiting him. Tucker might look small and geeky and love computers, but he was a fifth degree black belt in Shotokan karate. He had held his own in a spur of the moment karate match with UFC welterweight champion George St. Pierre. “Nothing. Forget it.” Rick huffed, storming past the front desk and the smirking Tucker. He swiped his badge, irritated at himself for letting Tucker get under his skin. Hell, he was irritated at himself for letting Quinn get under his skin. Rick was even too pissed to call the small guy “big man” like he usually did. Twenty-eight fucking years without a single person to worry about except myself. Less than a month after Quinn walks through the front door and I barely recognize the guy in the mirror or the thoughts in my own head anymore. Rick marched into the training area in a cloud of anger. Fucking Tucker, messing my head all up. When he reached the edge of the mat covered floor, his world stopped spinning and came to a screeching halt. He blinked, certain that his mind was playing tricks on him. Nope. It wasn’t. Across the gym, standing in front of the heavy bag wearing a tank top and those damn miniature shorts, was Quinn. She was barefoot, punching and kicking the bag with a jab-front kick combo. Quinn all sweaty, wearing next to nothing, was a sight to see. But what made the hairs on the back of his neck stand up, what Rick immediately zeroed in on, was Xavier’s fucking hands on Quinn’s hips, touching what belonged to Rick. Belong to me? Quinn doesn’t belong to me. Rick shook the thoughts from his head, squeezing his eyes shut until the angry red haze cleared. When he opened them back up, he saw Xavier and Quinn staring at him, their lesson interrupted by his odd behavior. “Hey man.” Xavier held up a wrapped hand in greeting. “Good to have you back.” Rick’s furious scowl surprised his friend, causing Xavier’s dark eyes to narrow suspiciously. Rick flicked his gaze over to Quinn. She stood next to Xav, unmoving, her face blank as she waited for her lesson to continue. It made Rick feel as if he were a mere annoyance. Already pissed and now embarrassed on top of it, Rick spun on his heel and stomped down the hall. He swiped his badge and punched in his code, opening the door to an empty Mission Control. Rick paced the room, raking his hands through his hair in frustration. He wanted to tear the room apart, but knew he’d face everyone’s wrath if he destroyed the expensive equipment. What the fuck is wrong with me? These unfamiliar feelings were messing with his head. Rick couldn’t define them, couldn’t explain them, and had absolutely no idea how to deal with them. The only way he knew how to release frustration was fucking or fighting. Right now, he was way to volatile to fuck. Fighting it is then.

REVIEW

Ricochet: Locked & Loaded (Ricochet, #1)

This is the story of two people who have been through hell in their lives and immediately see a kindred spirit in the other. Rick has been damaged from war and Quinn from an abusive husband. The reader does get to experience the pain both endure. Rick hides behind work and meaningless sex. Quinn just plain never lets her guard down. Both make an exception for the other.
This is just the first of serial so these two are in the getting-to-know-you phase. It’s hard for them to come to grips with how they’re feeling, and even harder for everyone else to accept.
“Well holy shit.”
“Ricochet’s gone and found himself some real feelings. And here I didn’t think you had any.”

In the end, they both still have issues to sort through before anything can become official.
